Art can be so much more than just a pretty picture; it can tell a story, provide a solution, or bring a smile to your face. My sketchbook has always been the diary of the world I experienced. These sketches laid the groundwork as I explored beyond the pages of a sketchbook or a blank canvas. My art eventually found homes on furniture, reclaimed antiques, copper, wood, and glass.
As a young mother and full-time illustrator, I found myself immersed in a world of child-like wonder and fascination. The illustration work and time exploring with my daughter led me to create more for children. I found a need to provide a sanctuary for children where they could dive into their own world, have their own safe space, and let their imaginations thrive. The children's beds I built and painted were designed to serve as art for the child's room, a bed, and a playhouse. Integrating elements into the beds, such as climbing into bed on a ladder of flower petals, or peeking out the playhouse castle door to invite friends in, the beds created a world for a child to call their own. Little did I know, creating these children's beds would shift my artistic path to pursue functional art.
My craft began to expand when my husband and I remodeled and customized an entire house, from the inside out. I built many of my own items to complete our house, including pendant lights, kitchen counters, furniture, and accessories. I learned even more about new materials and ways in which I could use my art to create beautiful solutions for our needs.
Now as I live my dream life in Lake Tahoe, I have the fortune to continuously grow, play, and explore new ideas and new adventures. If I am not in my workshop or on my living room floor working on my latest piece, you will find me out in the mountains trail running, mountain biking, or skiing.
The artistic medium only serves the purpose to make an idea come to fruition. Throughout my experience as an artist, I have found myself working extensively with wood, glass, copper, and found objects. Understanding the form and function needed for any given project, any medium can be a catalyst for beautiful art.
The story is what breathes life into a piece of art.
I enjoy finding a way to combine materials, both old and new, to create a piece of art that serves a purpose.
Typically my art is inspired by nature or music adorning unique or created "canvases."
